Exciting Find
November 19, 2008
Chase, like most boys, spent the past weekend hunting with his dad. While walking through the timber, they happened upon a beehive that had been built around a branch. Normally, bees build their hives in a hollow tree. The drones follow the queen and build their hive around her. Guess she decided to stay on the branch. Chase's grandfather was kind enough to bring the hive and bees to show the third graders. Chase told the class how the hive was discovered and his "Pa" told the kids various facts about bees. Some of the students thought the bees were frozen, but learned that they were still alive. Like many creatures, the bees are dormant during the cold months. After speaking with the third graders, Chase and his grandfather took the beehive to Mrs. Stark. She has plans to use it as a teaching tool in some of her classes. Below you will find a link to some pictures that were taken of the impromptu show-and-tell.
