Second Quarter News

by Nancy Shultz

November 19, 2008

It is hard to believe we're almost halfway through this school year.  The second quarter started out with Parent/Teacher Conferences.  We have continued to keep busy with many activities and studies to get ready for state tests.  Most have read their AR book for the second quarter, and we only have about 3-4 weeks left until the end of this quarter for those who haven't completed their AR for this quarter.  Also we're working on Lit. AR books.  These are narrative stories and the students will take another AR test over the book we're reading in groups.  As you can see, we're doing a lot of reading.   If practice makes perfect, this should help us do well on our state tests.

The other state test we'll do is the writing test.  We will do that the last of Jan.  To help us get ready for that we'll be writing our D.A.R.E. essay in Dec. since graduation is in Jan.  As you can see from the pictures Officer Mahrer is providing plenty of experiences from which the students will be able to use in their essays.

Thanksgiving is coming up next week.  Treats will be on Tues. at 2:40.  A note will be sent to those that signed up for treats for that holiday.  Then we'll only have three weeks until Christmas.  A note will be sent out later about the gift exchange and reminders of treats.  Also on Mon., Nov. 24, the music Christmas program will be held at 7:00.  Hope to see everyone there.  It should get us in the mood for all the holiday happenings that are coming up!  Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
