A New Year
In-Service for Faculty and Staff
August 15, 2008
The staff of #101 returned on August 11 for three days of professional development and preparation for the school year. School board member, Jack Simmons, welcomed everyone back, and new employees were introduced. Mr. Carson presented an update on the construction in the district, while Mrs. Brazle and Mrs. Fry updated teachers on assessment and curriculum issues.
On Tuesday, August 12, new teachers attended a breakfast at Horizons. Everyone appreciates members of the board attending the in-service and breakfast. The Erie High Charter School student council provided teachers and staff with a “cookout” lunch.
On Wednesday, August 13, principals held faculty meetings in their respective buildings. The three days concluded with a geocaching event designed to teach faculty how to use a GPS unit and its application in the classroom. Teachers who participated were lead to businesses along Main Street to obtain historical clues. The Erie businesses were very helpful in setting up this event; our thanks to them.
Classes started Thursday, August 14, and athletic practices begin on Monday, August 18.
