Erie Elementary

Another Amazing Teacher of the Week

Mrs. Jill Martin

by Michael Shouse

May 13, 2008

Mrs. Martin has been teaching at Erie for 28 wonderful years. When not teaching she likes growing flowers, shopping, walking and spending time with her grand kids.

Some helpful advice she would give someone interested in becoming a teacher is make sure you have plenty of patience. When asked if she would do her job all over again if given the chance she replied, "Yes, most definitely. I love my job!"

Being with the children each day and experiencing the knowledge they gain is her opinion of the best thing about teaching, and state assessments are the worst thing. The children are like sponges, they absorb the knowledge.

When asked when did you realize that you wanted to be a teacher, she replied, " Probably in high school - I knew I wanted a job that involved children."

Something she would like to say is, " Teaching is a very rewarding profession. Hopefully, I have instilled the joy of learning in my students and made a difference in their lives. They have all made a difference in my life, and have made my life worthwhile."
