Parent Newsletter:                                    March 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians:

NOTICE:  Rescheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences from February 25,conference will be on Tuesday, March 4- same schedule(4:00-7:00)

Erie Elementary/JH is participating in a fundraiser event.  We

have not done this for quite some time, and believe that our

students will benefit.  We are using Fundraising Works out of

Joplin, Missouri.  We had a “kick off” assembly on February 25,

and Mike Chancey, the companies representative, presented the

a promotional and instructional program to the kids, emphasizing that they should sell to friends, relatives, and at the parents workplace if allowed.  In other words we want the children to be safe, and would rather they not go door to door in unfamiliar neighborhoods.  We hope to purchase nice Erie polo shirts for every student, depending on our profit.  This money will go directly to the kids with hopefully the shirts, movies, field fun day, as examples of ideas.

Fundraising dates- February 25-March 10

With Spring around the corner, it can be hard to keep children

focused on learning.  What can you do to make school a top priority for your kids?  Keep these simple ideas in mind--they're useful at any time of the year.

Make attendance job #1.  Let your child know that unless

they're sick, they must go to school.  If possible schedule routine dentist and doctor appointments after school hours. Tip: Give awards for perfect attendance each month.

Show you care.  Talk about their school activities and projects. Attend as many school events as you can.  Tell them that homework comes first before extra activities.

Keep it upbeat.  Try to be positive with your children, even when

your own day has been difficult.  If you show a positive attitude

about your work, your children may feel better about their own

STATE ASSESSMENTS:  Students (3-8) are beginning their State Assessment testing this week.  Please ask your child about this, and see that they get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast.
