WELLNESS POLICY NEWS
February 28, 2008
The Wellness Policy Committee has recently updated the district Wellness Policy to a more reader-friendly format. The policy focuses on nutrition during the school day, physical activity, and nutrition education in the classroom. Each area is improved to meet the needs of our students at every age and grade level. The policy in each area deals with guidelines to improve the health and well-being of our students. Statistics show that healthy students learn and retain knowledge at a higher level. You may view the policy by clicking on the following link:
The goal of our district's policy committee is to not only educate the students, but also to carry that education to the community and to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all. To meet this goal, the committee has made health and nutrition pamphlets and materials available in the school offices to all parents and students. Nutrition educational materials may also be found at the local pharmacy that may benefit patrons of all ages. This policy is reviewed annually to update past goals and to set new ones before it is submitted to the Kansas State Department of Education Nutrition and Wellness. Any patron wishing to sit on the committee may contact Judy Magner at 244-5804.
We encourage you to keep nutrition simple, be physically active, stay within the calorie limits, enjoy foods rich in essential nutrients from all five food groups. To find the steps to a healthier you, go to www.mypyramid.gov where you will find fun ways to build a better you.
