The Fifth Grade Class

Focus on Fifth Grade

by Janeva Reasor

January 21, 2008

Fifth grade focus is Mrs. Nancy Shultz. She is the teacher for all of the 5th grade Reading and Language Arts at Erie Elementary. Mrs. Shultz has a bachelors degree and a masters degree from Pittsburgh State University. Mrs. Shultz has been teaching for 28 years. In the last six years she has taught Reading and Language Arts, but before that she taught all major subjects.

One thing that Mrs. Shultz enjoys about her job is “working with the children”.  Her favorite subject is, of course, Reading.  I asked her what advice she would give to someone interested in teaching as a career.  Her answer was, “you have to enjoy what you’re doing or don’t do it”.  When asked, "if you had a chance to do it over again, would you", her answer was yes. Since she started teaching she has seen the increased use of technology. Mrs. Shultz has a happy family and has passed the legacy of teaching on to her son.
