A new feature has been added this year: Elementary Spotlight, where every week, the spotlight shines on a certain teacher and their class. This week is for Mrs. Shaila Creitz and her 5th grade class.
Mrs. Creitz has been teaching for 25 years and still enjoys teaching fifth graders to this day, because of their dependent independence. "They don't need you to tie their shoes for them, but they still need you for other things. It's just fun teaching ten to eleven-year-olds," she said. Mrs. Creitz teaches math, social studies, and science, and the kids were more than happy to tell this reporter what their favorite of her subjects was: "Science!"
They have done many interesting projects, like learning about solutions with baking soda and vinegar, and making a backbone out of pipe cleaner, wagon wheels, and life savers. I asked for them to tell me one funny story about what has happened this year, but the teacher and her students couldn't give any single answer. "We have a lot of fun in here. There's always something to laugh about," Mrs. Creitz happily replied. The kids love Mrs. Creitz and enjoy her teaching. Keep it up, Mrs. Creitz!
